We believe it is important for a volunteer to know what rights they are owed and what their organization expects from them.  We have summarized these two categories below in order to make the relationship between volunteer and organization as clear as possible.

Volunteer Rights

Volunteers will:

  • Be carefully screened and placed in a position that is a good fit
  • Receive training for the position and for health and safety
  • Receive ongoing support and supervision
  • Be given feedback on their work, while also having an opportunity to give feedback to the Mission
  • Be recognized and appreciated both formally and informally
  • Have individual needs respected

Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers must:

  • Affirm and encourage clients positively, and avoid discrimination
  • Treat all clients with respect and dignity, and choose actions that could not cause harm of any kind
  • Avoid any kind of relationships with clients outside of the program
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding the Mission and our clients
  • Abstain from the use of alcohol or illegal drugs while representing Mission Services
  • Never share personal information such as home address with clients
  • Notify their supervisor if they cannot fulfill their commitment
  • Follow health and safety guidelines
  • Respect, though not necessarily share, the Christian identity and purpose of Mission Services

Who do you turn to when someone you love is struggling with addictions and you feel like your life is falling apart?

Kathryn came to the mission terrified and angry, feeling alone and without hope. She could think of nothing to do that would help her son. Jason was struggling with addiction and mental health issues, and Kathryn did not know where to turn.
