Edward Raddatz, Executive director, Mission Services of Hamilton
One of the most beautiful traditions of the Christmas season is music. With that in mind, music students from Parkside Secondary School, under the direction of Julia Grant, gave the gift of music to our guests at the men’s mission, James Ville 2, in the heart of downtown Hamilton.
Not only did the students provide a memorable concert singing Christmas favorites, but other students helped prepare and serve lunch to our guests.
The students also served home-made Christmas cookies which they had baked for the men and donated food items they had collected at their recent Christmas concert.
I would like to complement Grant and her students for their community outreach.
Our many guests appreciated the concert, but I believe the students also benefitted from interacting with our shelter guests and witnessing firsthand the considerable need in our community.
In an era where young people are often perceived in a negative light, it is refreshing to see young people giving of themselves to help others.
We all look forward to a return performance of the Parkside Secondary School Choir next Christmas.

Who do you turn to when someone you love is struggling with addictions and you feel like your life is falling apart?
Kathryn came to the mission terrified and angry, feeling alone and without hope. She could think of nothing to do that would help her son. Jason was struggling with addiction and mental health issues, and Kathryn did not know where to turn.
Mission Servies Opportunity Centres has received positive feedback from the community regarding our decision to commission a report from the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton on Homeless Women in Hamilton
Not to Be Forgotten: Homeless Women in Hamilton is accessible HERE.
I encourage you to read the report and share it with your friends. Any comments or observations about the report are appreciated.
